Who Stole The Show and Who Didn’t
A night focused solely on fashion, the Met Gala is a time for celebrities to strut their stuff down the red carpet and show just how much money they can spend on an outfit they’ll only wear once.
Every year, the Met Gala has a theme that the invited A-Listers have their clothes designed around. This year, the theme was “Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” and many celebrities completely nailed it while it seemed that others didn’t entirely get the memo of what the theme was supposed to be.
For instance, Zendaya showed up in a Joan of Arc inspired get-up that was a complete showstopper while Katy Perry wore a set of life sized angel wings that left us wondering how heavy they might have been, especially when she was later seen without them on.
Also looking spectacular were, Ariana Grande chowed up in a dress inspired by Italian painter, Michelangelo second only to Jared Leto, Lana Del Rey, and their designer, Alessandro Michele in pure Catholic inspired dress.
While some of the attendees went all out, some followed the theme subtly in their clothes, such as Troye Sivan in a devilishly red Valentino outfit, crushing his first Met.
Some of the guests, despite having the money to go all out, did the bare minimum to even make it look like they cared about the theme at all, the most noticeable one being Kim Kardashian in a golden Versace dress that dulled in comparison to everyone else attending.
While the theme was clearly seen through the clothes of the majority, there were some that stuck out like a sore thumb by not bothering at all to follow the theme that was set for this year’s Met. An example of this was Shawn Mendes and his girlfriend Hailey Baldwin who seemed to have picked their clothes straight out of their closets.
Even more embarrassing, however, was Nick Robinson who failed in his first Met Gala, by looking the most out of place in the group of extravagantly dressed people.
A surprising addition to this group was Kylie Jenner, who normally nails it when it comes to sticking to this theme. This year, however, she showed up in a black Alexander Wang gown that didn’t seem to have anything to do with the theme.
While it’s clear that the stars did indeed spend a lot of money on their custom clothing, it’s also seems that some of the celebrities didn’t care about the theme so much as the press surrounding their attendance. Hopefully, next year, the theme will be one everyone in attendance would be willing to follow.
