Clemens Tennis Stays Hot With a 18-2 Record
By forming an untouchable bond over the past three months, the varsity mixed tennis team has soared above the competition with an impressive seventeen wins and two losses, making them one of the best teams out of the dozens of schools in their district bracket.
The team, comprised of ten girls and eleven boys, are currently 5-0 in district.. With such high prospects as playoffs approach, the heat is high, but tension is at an all-time low.
“We are definitely the loudest and proudest team out there”, Senior player Katie Gambrel said. “We may lose a couple matches here and there, but we push each other and come back even stronger.”
Intense training for this season began back in July, when Coaches Jason Schraub and Ronnie Kirchof had their players undergo intense physical conditioning.
“There was tons of practice’, Gambrel said. “Our coaches had us hitting, drilling, and playing matches almost every day.”
Varsity tennis will battle Harlan in districts on Sept. 28th, but the team is confident in both their abilities and their comradery on and off the court. The group of seventeen are inseparable in all aspects, from team dinners to weekend hangouts outside of sports.
“These are the people I know I’m going to be friends with after high school and it’s all because of tennis”, Gambrel said.
