“The 39 Steps” Puts Twist On Traditional Theatre
Theatre Production dazzled under the stage lights of the Cafeteria October 12-14th with their adaptation of John Buchan’s The 39 Steps. Starring senior Michael Sharpe, freshmen Emily Holstein, junior Tyler Egg, senior Cailin Sniff, and senior Codiann Russell, this hysterical comedy follows fugitive Mr. Richard Hannay (Sharpe) on an adventure through an underground spy ring alongside his love interest, Pamela (Holstein).
“The funny accents and the cheesiness of this play is what really spoke to me”, Sniff, who played the villain’s wife, said.
With no official auditorium due to construction, actors and technical crew spent three hours a day, starting from the second week of school, rehearsing within the classroom and the cafeteria.
“It was something different for us to do, since we didn’t have an official rehearsal space”, Sniff said.
In addition, the production featured technical director Ms. Jaden Avance.
“It was special to us to make sure we did all of this perfect for her”, Sniff said.
As of now, theatre production will be working on performances for competition in November, followed by one act plays in the spring.
“These people are my family”, said Sniff. “They’ve made the last four years so much fun. I can’t wait for what the rest of this year will bring.”
